M.U.F.B.A.B. = MAKE UP FOR BEING A BITCH

To quiet the overwhelming fears that sometimes fashion can be a tad bit elitist or superficial, it's nice to focus energies on the less fortunate. Charity can be one of the most rewarding events during a lifetime. Today, people tend to shrink away from "giving responsibilities" especially with the current economic situation. This page will focus on charities that have touched me and I invite you to post the charities you believe in too - bringing awareness to all, even to those who care more about what they are wearing!

Beats for B (Boobs)

Jenuine West - Wednesday, September 28, 2011

I hate the word Boobs. I would prefer the flyer to read Breasts but I can't have my way all the time.
It's that time again but this one looks fun... I am volunteering my services to help coordinate the fashion show but there is still time to volunteer, DONATE, buy your tickets, donate services and auction items, etc... The list is endless.

So... purchase your ticket for Oct 19th at Key Club and come say hello. It's my birthday October 17th... so you have to!

Racing to Save Lives.

Jenuine West - Tuesday, July 26, 2011
It's been awhile...

Not that I haven't been charitable in undercover ways but nothing has been worthy of a post until now.

Two sisters, equal in beauty and equal in strength are participating in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. For the past couple months the girls have been busting their asses by biking, swimming and working out. With about a month and a half left before the Triathlon, these girls need your help. Each participant is required to raise $3200 by September but have a higher goal of $5000 to reach.

As Daniella and Anita mathematically figured: They only need 500 people to donate 6 dollars each or 500 people to donate $10 each!

So, please donate $6, $10 or more for each of these lovely ladies and more importantly pass this on because even if you can't pass on some dollar bills, maybe someone you know can.

Give! Just a little or maybe a lot.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

Jenuine West - Monday, November 08, 2010
Thanksgiving is only weeks away and Christmas is just around the corner. Last year I was able to organize a luncheon at SHARE! downtown. This year I am brainstorming and beginning to plan out another contribution to SHARE! Ideas, welcome, but we were thinking of a boxed lunch with a gift to give out to all their members. Please contact me if you'd like to help.

Beyond that, I would also like to bring another great program to your attention. We especially cannot forget about the under-priveleged children. Jesus, I sound like a commercial ad. BUT, sponsoring a family in your area is a wonderful way to give back. Instead of getting friends and family stupid gifts that end up being re-gifted or never used, pool your resources and sponsor a family. In the Los Angeles area, you can pick the size of your family... I have chosen a family of 2. While small, I wanted to be able to spoil them for Christmas. They estimate a family of 2 would need a donation of 100-200, at the donors discretion. If you can honestly look me in the computer screen and tell me you do not have $100-200 to spare, then stop reading. (and why the fuck are you reading a fashion blog anyways?)

Find the entire form to fill out here. Please decide and do it quickly, as all forms must be recieved by Nov. 12th... do something, don't just think about it.

Comfort for Children - High Rollers for Hope.

Jenuine West - Thursday, May 06, 2010
It's been awhile since I've posted a charity event... With so many charities out there, it is my rule to focus on the ones you really believe in.

You say you are a high roller? Show me.

Their mission is to help provide hope and a future for the less fortunate. Their education programs, building projects, medical/healthcare assistance, outreach ministries, and AIDS awareness to create a better tomorrow.

In this effort CTC is hosting a casino night. Not only are they looking for participants but companies to help with donations, silent auction items and raffle prizes.

Meoooooooeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooow

Jenuine West - Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Meow Meow meow meow meow meow.

When putting a meow to a melody, it always turns out great.

I have always been a dog person but once I moved to Los Angeles, I found myself surrounded by cat people and at one point I had a cat. A few of my girlfriends dedicate their free time to kittens and cats at Santé D'Or Foundation.

Founded in the summer of 2002, Santé D'Or Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization, specializing in natural healing and care. They are a no-kill animal rescue. The mission of Santé D’Or Foundation is to rescue and provide shelter and holistically-based medical care to animals, while attempting to secure them permanent homes. They act as an educational resource in our community through our rescue and adoption services and community outreach efforts. Their organization is run by an executive director, and entirely staffed by volunteers. Located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, California, and they serve the Southern California area, primarily the Los Feliz, Hollywood, Atwater and Silver Lake neighborhoods. They work with local animal trainers, communicators and healers to ensure that their animals are emotionally and physically well.

If kittens and cats and the idea of them dying an early death moves you, volunteer or donate.

If you are like me and your eyes swell and your nose runs, definitely donate or come down to Stinkers,  2939 W Sunset Blvd in Silverlake on February 9th beginning at 8 p.m.The owners of Stinkers are auctioning off the bar’s decor including a skunk’s butt that emits a smoke after a cord is pulled. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Santé D'Or Foundation and you will finally get the skunk tail you’ve been dreaming of.

SHARE!

Jenuine West - Wednesday, January 13, 2010
It is easy to forget but not hard to realize the importance of charity in one’s life. Within our lifetime, we are occupied with our jobs, social obligations and sometimes an inherit laziness for doing something beyond the expected.

Writing a check, although not to be dismissed; I wanted to participate in the act of giving this holiday season. I had the initial idea of supplying a meal to the homeless of Los Angeles on Skid Row. Unsure of the rules and regulations, I called several missions and shelters along with putting in calls to the Los Angeles Police Department. Without much response I was advised by the lead officer on Skid Row to leave the meals to the missions but left the ultimate decision up to me, as we wouldn’t be breaking a law. But after reviewing the reasons why, I decided it was best to have the lunch via a mission.

With the help of a girlfriend who lives downtown, I was put into contact with the wonderful people at SHARE. This facility offers self-help and support groups to aid in personal growth and change. SHARE! empowers people to change their own lives and provides them a loving, safe, non-judgmental place where they can find community, information and support. (info and link below) I quickly coordinated with Kevin of SHARE, that we would supply a free lunch to any and all on December 19th.  Gregory Garner and Madd Platter Catering (info and link below) would supply the food at cost to me and along with my friends would help serve the food. As an added idea, my fabric guru, Shelly Erion found over 90 yards of fleece material that we would both cut into scarves to donate with our gift of food.

On December 19th, 2009 with a couple of setbacks we started our lunch at 12:30 p.m. We fed about 120-150 people and gave plenty of plates to go with a lot of food left over for SHARE to give to others. Madd Platter shined with their selections of a Mexican feast with blackened chicken, tortillas, beans, rice, guacomole, pico de gallo, garden salad and all the fixings even despite a mishap earlier in the day involving their catering truck. Gregory Garner, Tim Williams, Jayson Killman, Tom Capler, HanNah Kim, Erika Slouber, and Shelly Erion, handed out food while Andrei Osyka walked the streets of LA spreading the word of a free lunch. While Brooke Mora, Brette Borow and Amy Gomez brought the yummy cookies from Diddy Rese. All in all it was a great turnout and I would love to repeat it next year.

Beyond self promoting how wonderful my friends and I are, the purpose of this entry is to stress the importance of following through with that nagging feeling of needing to do something for others. All this was planned within a week: the food was worked out with Madd Platter, location set, time set, scarves made, cookies ordered, flyers were distributed downtown by SHARE. Although a tiring week and without the help of my friends it wasn’t possible but the fact is, it happened. Push yourself; do something – don’t just think about it. Especially if you are a cold, calculating bitch like me – it may make up for 1/3rd of the cruelty you give to others throughout the year… (well-deserved cruelty)
