McQueen steals Hells Angels logo, unsucessfully.

Jenuine West - Monday, November 08, 2010
Some old news, as it hit the internets last week but interesting.

Just after eight days after a lawsuit was filed, McQueen Camps settles with Hell's Angels for using their "death head" skull logo. The settlement also included retailers: Saks Fifth Avenue and Zappos.com. The defendants have agreed to pull all merchandise referencing the Hells Angels, including knuckle-duster rings, clutches, the "Hells Angels Jacquard Box Dress" and a pashmina from their websites and stores, according to the Hells Angels' lawyer, Fritz Clapp. All merchandise that has already been sold will be recalled and destroyed... How the hell are you going to do that? People are going to willingly give up things they spent money on? The dress retailed for $1595.

wow.... pretty blatant copying... What were they thinking?

Sale Time!

Jenuine West - Thursday, June 03, 2010
SALE TIME! Seasons are over and its time for retailers to shed their old frocks and make room for the extremely expensive pieces that we will covet, drool, and kill for.

My favorite sales to peruse are Barney’s, Net-A-Porter, La Garconne, and always McQueen. McQueen is at 40%, a couple more weeks and they will be at their 60% sale.

Visit Barneys! Or Net-A-Porter! or La Garconne!

More to come in the next week or so...

The Show Must Go On....

Robert Polet, Gucci Group chief executive, announced today that the McQueen label would not retire and that the Fall 2010 collection scheduled for Paris Fashion Week on March 9th will still occur. A new designer has not been named yet.

Azrouel, Laing and Wang.

I’ve been a very naughty girl. McQueen’s passing and my trip to NY has resulted in zero posts during NY Fashion week. I shall make up for it with this fascinating, riveting post.

Ready?

Yigal Azrouel didn’t disappoint me. He brought suits on the runway with an edginess yet still kept it wearable for the everyday office woman. His lines were slimming and definitely not boring. He threw in leather, pinstripes and embroidered details upon black, greys and earth hues.

Jeremy Laing evoked the spirit of his country’s natural resources. Light weight fur coats made of beaver, raccoon and muskrat pellets, along with a trapper-esque style hit the runway. Not denying his deconstructive style, he made his pieces less complicated but kept the hard lines and layering. I was a huge fan of his last line but I find this season’s pieces a bit too reminiscent of what I escaped from - country living. Despite this I love the textures, fur pieces, and tight legging styled pants.

Alexander Wang also went the suit route. He decided that his women couldn’t always wear a lightweight tee to work although comfortable. Deconstructed suits with surprise slivers of skin, layers, and a bondage theme. My one gripe, although on the rise; velvet. I hate it and he used it a lot. Although, this wont stop me from shopping his velvet-less pieces for work. Oh, and I hated the hair.... greasy and stringy to work?

Still looking forward to Proenza Schouler and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Do you possess a talent for sewing?

Jenuine West - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
I do not.

And this was made painfully obvious after I failed Home Economics. I'm not sure if my failing grade had to do with a pair of shorts without leg holes or the small fire.

Still, if you have golden fingers or a sewing machine or a tailor, you need to stop by Bella Fabrics.

Several months ago, I was walking to my car from a brunch at King's Café on Beverly. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me as I spotted a McQueen skull in the window and I was neither on Melrose or Orlando. They carry different designer fabrics from Pucci to McQueen and sometimes even Chanel. A quick warning, it isn't cheap. I paid $50 a yard for the McQueen skull but when comparing the price tag of a McQueen t-shirt, it’s a steal.

Is this illegal? Maybe, but let’s live dangerously.
