GOOK!

Jenuine West - Wednesday, January 26, 2011
I am behind on posts again but I blame this delay on genes. Normally Asian genes hold an extreme understanding of mathematics and sciences. I do not. I am taking a class that involves both math and science, which also involves my face contorting into different poses - opening up the possibilities of wrinkles.

Last weekend, I ventured home to upstate New York. I had a lovely visit with family and friends but an eventful one. I now realize why I am the way I am. After being called "gook" a couple of times, getting stuck in a ditch and suffering frostbite (all within 24 hours) why wouldn't I be the blunt, judgmental, quick to be angered woman that I am today?

Gook? You may ask... People even use that word in real life?

Yes. They do. They have as long as I have existed in my small town, in college and even out in Los Angeles. Well, Hermosa Beach...

For a long time, especially in my teens, I would be with my friends at a mall and we'd pass a mirror and I would be shocked. Who is that Asian in the window?! The one with the slanty eyes and stick straight hair? I still get shocked sometimes. My personality and my upbringing would surely fit a thin, tall waspy girl with mousey brown hair and glasses. But as time goes by, I get a bit more comfortable with being Korean. I love Korean food.

It is a work in progress...

Moral of the story - Do not call me Gook because I do not want to go to jail.

Asian in training - my parents tried.

But I guess not enough. Hot socks Daddy. :)

This explains why...

I am so impulsive. My last name starts with a "W". A recent study has concluded that people at the end of the alphabet are more impulsive buyers than those at the front.

Researchers say and published in the Journal of Consumer Research:

The idea holds that children develop time-dependent responses based on the treatment they receive. In an effort to account for these inequities, children late in the alphabet will move quickly when last name isn't a factor; they will 'buy early.' Likewise, those with last names early in the alphabet will be so accustomed to being first that that individual opportunities to make a purchase won't matter very much; they will "buy late."

I always hated going last.

No food. Just Juice and sun.

We returned from Palm Springs on Monday after a quick stop at Cabazon. I got Andrei a new pair of black pants and myself a camel throw. Not that exciting.

Palm Springs was mid 80s. I love that place for its sole purpose of soaking up the sun. Viceroy was fully booked so we decided to go with the Ace Hotel. We were Ace virgins and I wish I kept it that way. I wont say too much but it was a disappointment. I now know that my love for the Viceroy is not jaded puppy love. We juice fasted for four days, breaking on the fifth day. I wanted to go the full five but I am leaving soon for Buffalo. Eighty degree weather to ten degree weather - I am scared and horrified.

I love long weekends.

I am chasing the heat before next weekend's trip to upstate New York. Heading to Palm Springs for some poolside laying and a quick juice cleanse. Before you begin a liquid only diet and not the fun kind, your mind starts to wander and think of all the foods that you could be eating. Finding Fine fare that you normally wouldn't crave becomes an obsession

Therese Aldgård in collaboration with prop stylist Lisa Edsälv for Plaza Kvinna designed and photographed cupcakes that would go well with Designers' fashions. The end result? An addition to the guilt one feels when eating sweets and maxing the credit card.

Where is the ice cream too?

Hope you soak up the sun this weekend - it is supposed to be high 70s in Los Angeles!

I've made it!!!

as a fashion blogger!

No, I didn't get a sponsor. No, I didn't get asked to collaborate on a line. No, I didn't get asked to write about a certain brand.

I got hate mail!

As I have admitted before there are by far more important things in life then what we wear and what we can wear. This is just a blog, a place where I can write about one thing that I enjoy. And I repeat, one thing. This website doesn't reflect the myriad facets of my being beyond a specific goal of writing about fashion. One goal out of several. If I truly repulse you, why are you reading? Why are you hiding behind anonymity?

Obviously, you are taking me too serious. Lighten up. It is okay if you shop at Target! We all do!

Love,
JW

Iosselliani

Jenuine West - Wednesday, January 12, 2011
On my trip to American Rag over the weekend I saw a set of Rings by Iosselliani. Since I had to exhibit some will power, I tried them on and didn't purchase them.

But now, all I can think about is how I would pair them, separate them and have fun in them.

Iosselliani began in Rome in 1997 with merging of Roberta Paolucci and Paolo Giacomelli. Both artists have came together to create a multitude of fused materials that are strongly inspired by Italian classic jewelry, yet surpass the traditional ideas - creating beautiful pieces with an edge.

Available in Los Angeles at Barney's and American Rag Cie. How long will it take me to break down and go buy these rings? I am guessing not that long.

Phew, is the weekend over?

Jenuine West - Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Remember how I said I probably shouldn't shop for a month in yesterday's post...

Well I had some credit left at American Rag so I went there on Saturday...

I perused through the sale racks and found this for 30% off!

Monrow Knit Print Jacket

I love this jacket. I've worn it a couple times since Saturday and it is only Tuesday! The pockets slightly remind me of a Chanel jacket but the sleeves and collar bring a certain edge to it. I've seen Monrow dresses before that caught my eye but I couldn't pass up this jacket.

I wore it to the Kings game, a KRS One Concert and the Hear Party downtown on Saturday with a fire orange silk shirt and black pleather shorts.

I had a very fun weekend, socially and shoppingly.

I've been a bad girl...

In lieu of being in Playa Del Carmen while my significant other soaks up sun, I stopped by Barney's and Maxfields on Friday.

Wrong move for the wallet, smart move for the closet.

Barney's was and probably is still having a fabulous sale so I bought a 3.1. Phillip Lim dress, a Helmut Lang dress, an Alexander Wang dress. On to Maxfields where I considered a Rick Owens dress but decided on a pair of Chanel booties.

Ouch.

But... I look so lovely in them.
This means I probably shouldn't buy anything new for a month. Oh, that is a sad statement.

I felt so guilty and happy at the same time that I wore the Alexander Wang dress Friday night.

Another reason...

Dr. Olivier Zong, a director of surgery at NYC Footcare has claimed that wearing Uggs could increase your chances for getting foot fungus: “fungus breeds in dark, wet environments–conditions that are usually seen inside trendy sheepskin boots.”

Surprise, Surprise - Now d-bags come with foot fungus.

My Ears are happy once again.

Jenuine West - Friday, January 07, 2011
One lost diamond earring and two separate pairs of Chanel earrings injured and in the shop, I had to give in and make myself feel a bit better about the condition of my ears.

And why stop there? My wrist felt left out.

All the wishes on every star in the sky would not make this bracelet the Cartier Panthere but its vintage Kenneth Jay Lane and will have to do for now. I purchased the earrings at Chanel and the bracelet at The Way We Wore - an in depth vintage store on La Brea. They have a plethora of goods - from vintage costume jewerly, vintage boots, vintage Chanel, Dior, and many unknown but beautiful pieces. Located on South La Brea and 4th, you need to stop by. They are currently holding a sale right now as well. 50% off of dresses on the first floor. Check them out here.

Ps. All pictures were taken on my new Itouch - let the hipstamatic fun begin!
