Black lips.

Jenuine West - Friday, September 17, 2010
Remember the days when you would use your black eyeliner pencil down to the nub just so you could proudly display your lips in a Gothic black hue?

No?

Hmmm, me neither.

Well, now either way, you can wear actual black lipstick. Anna Sui’s Vivid Lipstick is available online at Urban Outfitters. Grab it here.

3.1 Phillip Lim

Jenuine West - Thursday, September 16, 2010
Is it me or is modesty a theme this Spring 2011? You know what that means... get all your whoring in before Spring 2011. 3.1 Phillip Lim stayed true to his neutral pallet (thank you) and played up male tailoring. I love the suit and I love the barely there trench coat.

Proenza Schouler

Jenuine West - Thursday, September 16, 2010
Delicate, modest suits with knee length skirts, long trousers and Chanel-esque jackets - Proenza Schouler started out their Spring 2011 line with a certain professionalism. But only for a moment did they trick us while displaying their beautiful classic clothing skills they still transformed into the PS we all know and expect. Neon laces with brassieres to burst of colors and prints always matching perfectly.

Rodarte Spring 2011

Jenuine West - Wednesday, September 15, 2010
In the theme of walking outside my comfort zone, Rodarte blew my mind. Laura Mulleavy promised "every shade of brown you can imagine, seventies suburbia, wood paneling, gold, off colors like chartreuse—basically, a combination of all the things that represent the area to us." (taking their inspiration from their backyard) And the Mulleavy sisters didn’t disappoint. Beautiful but edgy, cut out pieces with burnt colors and sparkles of skin. Absolutely gorgeous. Colors I can get behind.

Mr. Wang.

Jenuine West - Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Mr. Wang, do you read my mind...

Can you imagine me without black clothes? (If you know me then you can't) Can you imagine Alexander Wang without black?? Well, you don’t have to imagine.

In a time where I am trying to step out of my comfort zone, embrace colors Wang helps ease me in with a hue that is needed for every color with a sprinkle of pastels.

Still staying true minimalism, Wang was quoted: “There's no black! I was looking for something optimistic, something pure."

I heart FNO.

Fashion’s Night Out was a blast. We started at Chanel on Rodeo. We arrived about five minutes before the doors opened and our chances of getting a polish change with their limited edition polishes looked positive. Flash forward to the opening of the doors; women and girls were pushing and shoving to be first in line and I refused. I will not run nor push my way into Chanel. Annoyed, I went directly to the back to buy all three limited edition polishes but was denied  because I needed to get a polish change first. Fine. I directed my energy to Floor 2. Found gorgeous gold and black ballet flats and made them mine.

We made our way, champagne in hand back downstairs. I smiled sweetly at the woman who denied me, showed her my black bag with new shoes and she relented. I was able to procure all three polishes.

Next stop, YSL where my girlfriend bought some beautiful dark camel Tribtoo pumps and I almost did too. Then Jimmy Choo, Prada, and Tiffany’s. With champagne at every store - we were unable to make it to Robertson and Melrose but I was extremely happy with what I saw and what I bought. There should be parties for shopping every Friday or maybe every day...

Fashion's Night Out!

Jenuine West - Wednesday, September 08, 2010

I don’t know where to start. Even I am overwhelmed so I will do my very best to relay this information to you in the most efficient way ever...

Fashion Night Out is fast approaching: Friday, September 10, 2010. Last year was Fashion’s Night Out’s first year and barely represented in Los Angeles but thrived in New York. This annual shopping extravaganza is led by Vogue Magazine and the Council of Fashion Designers of America and for the second year, LA is going all the way. The following areas and shopping centers will be hosting FNO:

Abbot Kinney
Beverly Center (Central Hub for Los Angeles)
Los Feliz
Melrose Avenue
Roberston Boulevard
The Grove
West Third Street
Westfield Century City
Westfield Topanga

Take a look here for all participating Retailers. Participatingretailers.com

I am only going to touch upon highlights in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and West Hollywood — but if you have a favorite designer - call the store because within these city limits over 300 parties, personal appearances, shopping discounts and the like are all occurring simultaneously.

Rodeo Drive is bringing Fashion’s Night Out in Style. A Ferris wheel will be strategically placed and free to ride with a receipt from a participating retailer. Chanel will be offering manicures with their limited edition shades, Fendi will be showing a special installation shot by Karl Lagerfeld, Hermes will be demonstrating scarf-tying, Valentino will be offering a Casino night and so much more. rodeodrive.com

The Beverly Center will serve as the headquarters with free parking and shuttles starting at 4pm to six retail districts centered on Melrose Avenue, Robertson Boulevard, West 3rd Street, Abbot Kinney Boulevard, downtown Los Angeles and Los Feliz. Charles David founder Charles Malka will be performing an in-store shoe signing (in the Beverly Center) from 6 to 9. Fred Segal on Melrose will have appearances by Quiksilver's surfing team, and Decadestwo is holding "400 dresses for $400 or under". LAcity.com

WeHo is also going big. There will be a Julia Clancey runway show at the Andaz, artwork will be displayed at the 3.1 Phillip Lim Boutique and if you spend $300 at John Varvatos on Robertson, photographer Robert Knight will shoot your portrait. weho.com

The list of events is huge. I am leaning towards Rodeo just because I want to ride the Ferris Wheel....

Leopard for a Nasty Gal.

Jenuine West - Thursday, September 02, 2010
I bought something with leopard on it!

I have this amazing or sick ritual (depends how you look at it) that before I take a weekend trip, I need at least one thing new. And as I am leaving for New York tonight to visit with some college loves and to attend another music filled weekend - Electric Zoo - this time wasn’t any different.

As I was browsing other fashion blogs I saw an ad for Nasty Gal. www.nastygal.com Do not type in nasty girl because you wont like what you see, well at least while you are at work. Nasty Gal has an assortment of clothes that are cheaper versions of designer pieces and some originals. They carry brands like Jeffery Campbell, Cheap Monday, Kill City, etc... Designers that fall under the definition realms of hipsters... They also carry hand picked vintage.

Their main page is taken over by a girl in a leopard poncho.

Leopard is trendy right now, it seems to go in and out of style every two to three years and I have fallen victim to the trend. I purchased for under $50, it cost me a bit more with one day delivery but not bad for a cute pull over poncho. Not too opulent, heh?

Lanvin and H&M

Jenuine West - Wednesday, September 01, 2010
Lanvin designers Alber Elbaz (womenswear) and Lucas Ossendrijver (menswear) are collaborating with H&M for a holiday collection set to be released around November 2nd to 200 H&M stores worldwide. I can’t wait to see the collection... I always have mixed feelings about these collaborations but I will hold my tongue till I see the finished project.
