She does...

Jenuine West - Saturday, November 28, 2009

The first one to bite the dust wasn’t me but we always knew it wasn’t going to be me - unless it was a drunken, drug themed, Vegas wedding… and although I am all for that, it has yet to happen. One of the loves of my life has been asked to join her longtime boyfriend for a lifetime of continued bliss and as I received the phone call, I screamed in delight much to dismay of my parents. (I was at home for thanksgiving.) The happiness of my fabulous lovers sometimes rivals my love for fashion. Sometimes.

And as proof, this post has nothing to do with fashion but just an outpouring of my immense desire and need for her and her mate to be happy forever - a word used with less weight as it once was before. Yet, I have no criticism, sarcastic words or pessimistic thoughts when I think of them and their future. All I have is love, as I know they do and will for a very long time.

My only request is that there are NOT bridesmaid’s dresses and if there are kids in the future, I will never have to babysit.

To one of the most important person in my life, Congratulations and I love you. Just don’t tell anyone.

McQueen makes packing better...

Jenuine West - Friday, November 20, 2009

As I prepare to go home for a quick visit (48 hours), I always have such a hard time packing, especially to go home. You need to bring the bras, keep the thongs at home, not wear too much black - you know… the normal things to keep your mother happy and not lead on that you worship Satin.

As always, I am over packing and this proves to be hard when only traveling with a carry-on. Yet, McQueen comes through once again and saves the day. Samsonite and McQueen teamed up a couple years ago to come out with Samsonite Black Label by Alexander McQueen. Not disappointing, the line was classic yet edgy. From white alligator skin to a black carry on that was modeled after a human skeleton with McQueen's own thumbprint on the zipper, I fell in love instantaneously.

I bought the skeleton carry on within hours of first seeing it - properly labeled Samsonite Black Label by Alexander McQueen Hero. It comes with a black and white zebra print luggage cover, a lock, and smaller bags for undergarments and such. This bag is huge. It fits so much, compared to the rectangle roll-on. I know this for a fact, since a traveling partner has the rectangle roll on and I have always ended up traveling with some of her clothes at the end of a trip.

In 2008, they stepped up the line and came out with silver versions of above. If you ever had a problem finding your bag, look no further.

This line is old news in the luggage world as it has been out for awhile but that means, the pieces are online and most of them are on sale…

Mani and pedis... and eye candy!

Jenuine West - Monday, November 09, 2009

Just like many beauty services, it is difficult to find the perfect hair stylist, the perfect nail salon, etc…

I am happy to announce after twenty-five years of biting my nails, I have been able to let them grow to a reasonable length - a length that deserves a weekly manicure. After wasted money and many disappointing visits to nail salons around the Los Angeles area, I found Moon Nails.

Sweet and talented nail technicians, stone massages, and comfortable chairs are just a few things that make Moon Nails a great salon. I have never been disappointed by any of their services. I mostly go for a manicure and a pedicure with an extra ten-minute massage and sometimes I will have my eyebrows waxed.

You can find Moon Nails at 7022 Melrose Ave, (323) 930-0099, located on the corner of Melrose and La Brea. No worries, there is parking in the back and as an added bonus a hot, black model, who shall remain nameless can be found here getting a mani/pedi.

What more can a girl ask for? Nice nails and some nice eye candy.

So long razors... so long waxing...

Jenuine West - Thursday, November 05, 2009

I have a hate and love relationship with hair.

I love my long hair or else I would look like a twelve-year old Asian boy.

But I hate hair in places it shouldn’t be.

I have always struggled with stubble on my legs, my armpits and below - ingrown hairs, fast growing hairs and an ultimate disdain for shaving and waxing led me to the wonderful world of laser hair removal.

I was referred to Medspa through a nurse girlfriend and even though I had heard different opinions on laser hair removal, the idea of eliminating razors from my life pushed me to experiment. I started at MedSpa 90210 in Beverly Hills and had great results. After 4-5 sessions, all areas were almost hairless. I have started on my legs now, which is a slower process since it is not recommended to get done while tan and I love to tan.

The great thing about Medspa compared to other laser hair removal places is that instead of requiring you to buy a package or charge you for each area, they charge you for the amount of time. They offer the following rates:

10 minutes = $100

15 minutes = $150

30 minutes = $175

45 minutes = $250

I was able to get my armpits and Brazilian done under twenty minutes. For touchups, I schedule ten minutes and now for my legs and touchups it takes about thirty to forty-five minutes. They offer student discounts, a referral program, and sometimes offer great specials.

I have referred several friends and no one has been disappointed and as the colder seasons approaches, now is there perfect time to start getting ready for the summer.

Recycling Raquel Allegra

Jenuine West - Monday, November 02, 2009

As quoted from mother and parents all around the United States: “Why would you pay full price for something with holes, rips and tears in it?”

And I would reply as I have before: “Because it is fucking fabulous.”

Raquel Allegra creates outstanding pieces from Los Angeles County jail tattered t-shirts. Using her secret techniques she turns these rags into soft, distressed pieces, such as t-shirts, tunics, tank tops, dresses and scarves. Reminiscent of spider webs, the distressed fabric clings to a body with the comfort of an old tee but with the style of an innovative design.

She is based in Los Angeles and although she does not have her own store, her pieces can be found at the following stores as noted on her website:

Maxfield

8825 Melrose Ave.

Los Angeles, CA 90069

310.274.8800

Curve

154 N Robertson Blvd.

West Hollywood, CC 90048

310.360.8008

Fred Segal Trend

500 Broadway

Santa Monica, CA 90401

310.458.6365

Switch

238 S Beverly Dr.

Beverly Hills, CA 90212

310.860.1650

Although, not on her website, I recently found a couple pieces at Barney’s in Beverly Hills and purchased a dark grey tee. I’ve worn it thrice and am in love. She is definitely an Angelino designer to watch out for and I’m intrigued to see what she does next.
